Student code is sensitive. Honor Checker is built with that in mind — here’s how the architecture protects it, and what we commit to.
Serverless AWS architecture
Honor Checker runs on AWS using a serverless, least-privilege design — no long-lived servers to patch, and a smaller attack surface by construction.
Per-tenant data isolation
Every record is tenant-scoped. An institution’s data is isolated from every other institution’s, top to bottom.
Authentication with MFA
Authentication is handled by AWS Cognito, with required multi-factor authentication — TOTP authenticator apps, SMS, or email — plus recovery codes.
Encrypted in transit
Traffic is encrypted with TLS. Student submissions are stored in access-controlled storage, scoped to the owning tenant.
Designed with student privacy in mind
Honor Checker processes student submissions only to do its job — fingerprinting and comparing code within your institution. Data is tenant-scoped and access-controlled, so submissions stay within the institution that owns them. The organizational and role model ensures people see only the courses and sections they’re authorized for.
Honor Checker is designed to support institutions’ obligations around student educational records. Our AI commitments
Clear rules for AI, stated up front
AI assistance is on our roadmap, not shipped — but our commitments about it hold now:
- Student code is never used to train AI models. Full stop.
- AI processing will be opt-in per institution. If your institution doesn’t enable it, it doesn’t run.
- A human always decides. AI interprets and drafts; it never accuses a student. Matches come from a published, deterministic algorithm — not an AI guess.
